  • Artist Biography

Victor Atkins is an artist and writer/director of films. Originally based in Brooklyn, New York, Atkins was a prevalent artist from 1970 – 1988. After a twenty-year hiatus, Victor Atkins has begun to paint again. A genesis-like experience has brought him back to his original passion. He currently resides and works in Pasadena, CA.

Victor Atkins current art uses intense color, primitive childlike icons and rhythmic brush strokes to create whimsical, lyrical abstract imagery. These works challenge the viewer to look past the first impression and explore a “dream space” of joy, emotion and spirituality. Atkins paintings are based on scriptures, music and uplifting stories that have affected his life and his journey as an artist.

Victor Atkins work has been exhibited in many galleries throughout the United States, and was represented primarily by The Louis K. Meisel Gallery in NYC. His paintings are in the collections of: Museum of Modern Art Lending Library of New York, Aldrich Museum of Connecticut, Allentown Museum of Pennsylvania, and Fort Wayne Museum of Indiana.

Victor Atkins work has been reviewed in Art International, Arts Magazine, Metro.US, Philadelphia Neighborhoods and Resource Exchange: reCreate – featured artist: Victor Atkins.
