Balancing Power and Freedom

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (The Bill of Rights, Amendment II)

LUZ ART is honored to be presenting gunPOWers, an exhibition assembling four distinctive artists who directly and indirectly reference the Gun, along with all its immense powers, politics, and history.

Featured artists reference the gun from their individual perspectives. Used as a tool for defense, a symbol of both freedom and illegal activity, we take a look at the unique viewpoint of each artist and how their work shapes our society.

All four artists in gunPOWers are male, of Latino and Native American ancestry, and U.S.- born. Their artwork and personal histories allow a glimpse into individual personality and ethnic history, unpacking the 2nd amendment from a uniquely American perspective, better understanding the purpose of this American freedom. This artwork focuses on the gun issue with clarity, revealing invisible hands – for a picture of a more honest and humane coexistence.
